Recent Activities

  • CMS-N accomplished five basic mediation training in Putalibazar municipality, Syangja (September 20-27, 2019); Bheriganga municipality, Surkhet (December 26, 2019, to January 2, 2020); Bansgadhi municipality, Bardiya (December 8-15, 2019); Mahankal rural municipality, Lalitpur (January 5-12, 2020), and Ghodaghodi municipality, Kailali (February 2-9, 202). The events were conducted jointly with respective municipalities. In total, 174 participants such as retired teachers, local social and political leaders and influential personalities (out of which 50% were women) were part of the training programs.
  • CMS-N provided technical support to the Mediation Council to prepare the five years strategic plan. For the plan to be drafted, a three-member committee was formed, including the CMS-N chair as a member. We supported the council in the consultative process, from disseminating the newly developed plan to gathering feedback and suggestions from representatives of the district court, mediators, judicial committee and mediation related organizations. After the publication of the strategic plan in the Nepali language, the process for an English version of the plan is being prepared and supported.  
  • CMS-N has organized two high-level Mediation Council official’s monitoring visits in Dhankuta, Rasuwa and Nuwakot district. The first visit was made to Dhankuta district and the second visit, to Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. The Mediation Council chair, secretarial head, and staff along with CMS-N chair had visited the districts, during which an interaction program was organized. With the Chief justice of the High Court,  the visiting team, mediators and district president of CMS-N were also present. The visit benefitted in providing an orientation opportunity for mediation, and a platform of learning about mediators and their experiences and practices within the districts.
  • On March 12, 2021, CMS-N hosted its ninth and tenth AGM and third general convention in the Hotel Himalayan, Kupandole. The ninth AGM, previously halted, was held jointly with the tenth meeting. Altogether, 150 participants from twenty districts participated and the third general convention elected the new executive board of CMS-N for the next two years. Similarly, the district chapter of the CMS-N organized their own Annual General Meeting. Financial, narrative reports of the fiscal year were presented, and the meeting was concluded with the formulation of plans for the upcoming year.
